It looks like there might be another candidate for the Republican nomination for president, Fred Dalton Thompson. Yes, the person who plays Arthur Branch on Law & Order is considering a run for the highest office in the land. He was asked about this during his appearing Sunday (11 March 2007) on FOX News Sunday in an interview by Chris Wallace. Basically, he said that he is going to watch how things go in the months ahead. Until then he is going to "leave the door open".
Here is the portion of the interview where he shares his views & what will lead him to give "serious consideration" to running:
Fred Thompson has been a lawyer since 1967. He served as Co-Chief Council of the US Senate Watergate Committee (1973-74). In 1977 he helped expose a scandal involving the Tennessee Parole Board & helped topple Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton. A movie was made of the scandal in 1985 & he was cast to play himself. This launched his acting career. In 1994 he was elected as US Senator from Tennessee. In 2001 he decided not to run for reelection. Near the end of his 2nd term in 2002 he began playing DA Arthur Branch on the original Law & Order & later playing the same character on Law & Order: Trail By Jury as well as occasional appearances on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He has also been involved in the board of "Scooter" Libby's defense fund.
He is in favor of overturning Roe v Wade & opposes gun control. He supports the efforts of President Bush in Iraq.
