For Once Safety Doesn't Trump Abortion Ideology

I'll admit this doesn't make a lot of sense, but I am pleasantly pleased that Kathleen Sibelius, the poster girl for Planned Parenthood political corruption program, said no to the FDA allowing teenage girls access to the morning-after pill without a prescription. I say that this common sense approach by Sibelius is a surprize given how the abortion industry opposes any limits on teen access to abortion & has pushed for this very thing. As Jill Stanek put it the decision is “a shocking dose of sanity.”
Sibelius' letter says that she did not "believe enough data were presented to support the application to make Plan B One-Step available over the counter for all girls of reproductive age, I have directed FDA to issue a complete response letter denying the supplemental new drug application (SNDA) by Teva Women’s Health, Inc.”  When has the lack of data, or data to the contrary stopped her in the past?
The big irony is abortion proponents are calling the decision political, something that they know every decesion that has been made by the Obama administration in support of their agenda has been. This time however, they lost the battle. & they may be right that decision was political, given the huge backlash among Catholics after last summer's HHS birth control mandate. It could very well be a sop intended to pacify Catholics. & somewhere down the road this decision will be reversed, like after the election.
As Human Life International President Father Shenan J. Boquet put it, the Plan B decision was “welcome,” but his group remained “very concerned” about the impending birth control mandate.

If this decision by Secretary Sebelius is truly about protecting the health of young women, then she will reconsider the HHS rule forcing private insurers and employers to pay for services to which they are diametrically opposed,” said Boquet.
But, if this move is intended as a pragmatic one to alleviate concerns of those, such as the Catholic bishops, who are rightly concerned with her department’s activist promotion of contraception, then it will fail in its objective. The mandate must be reversed, and soon.”
The fact that the mandate hasn't been reversed is why I agree with Fr. Bouquet. & until I see the reversal of that mandate I will remain convinced that this is nothing more than an attempt to sucker those Catholics on the line back into the Obama camp.
It could also be an attempt to give pro-Obama, pro-abortion Catholycs, aka Catholics in Name Only, a little cover as well. They can say that this proves the claims that the Obama administration isn't so anti-life & family as the Pro-life side claims. Remember the "lipstick on a pig" statement on the 2008 election, well this is a real example of that. For the reasons stated, this whole move is cosmetic as far as I am concerned. & time will prove me right when we see the next move by Obama to promote the "culture of death" rather that continue in this direction..
