Will Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal Kepp His Word On HF 657?
Steven N. Brody, Executive Director of Dubuque County Right to Life, Inc. issued the following statement today regarding Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal’s apparent non-committal to schedule debate on House File 657, the Fetal Pain Bill:
“Senator Gronstal has repeatedly stated in numerous press sources that he would not block debate on House File 657, the Fetal Pain Bill. Dubuque County Right to Life, Inc. is calling on Senator Gronstal to be a man of his word and do the right thing.”
Twenty-Six members of the State Senate, both Republican and Democrat, took the unprecedented step of signing a withdrawal petition to remove the bill out of the Government Oversight Committee, and onto the Senate floor. Senator Gronstal is now responsible for either scheduling debate or not.
“The Iowa House has already passed it, the Iowa Senate wants to pass it, the Governor wants to sign it, the Mayor of Council Bluffs and its citizens want it passed, and the citizens of Iowa want it passed. Senator Gronstal needs to be a man of integrity, and not become known as the man responsible for allowing LeRoy Carhart to perform late-term abortions in our state.” Dubuque County Right to Life is a non-profit, non-sectarian, educational organization dedicated to preserving and fostering a respect for human life from conception to natural death. We educate the public about the dangers of abortion, euthanasia, and infanticide.
