It has recently come out that the University of Iowa allowed staffer Dr. Jill Meadows (l) to violate the school’s non-compete agreement so she could do abortions at a Planned Parenthood center as long as she continued to train medical students, including in how to do abortions.
The usual protocol for doctors who teach at the university is to be prohibited from working within a 50-mile radius of Iowa City, IA where the main University of Iowa campus is located. That prohibition normally extends to two years following the termination of employment with the university, a fairly common practice in the field.
Meadows began teaching at UI in 1999. Last year she told UI officials last year she was resigning on June 30 to become the medical director for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. Recently the Associated Press obtained a June 22 legal settlement in which UI officials said they believed her plans to work for the abortion business would violate the non-compete agreement. But rather than tell her she couldn't work at PP they said they would not take action on that point as long as Meadows agreed to serve as an unpaid University of Iowa instructor as well as provide training in abortions to medical students at the Planned Parenthood facility in town.
That things played out this way between PP, Dr. Meadows & the UI doesn't surprize me at all. In fact, given both PP's & the UI track record, it is par for the course. PP gets cheap help to do the abortions, thus upping their profits & UI is able to use our tax dollars to help out PP. So much for PP's claims that they don't get tax money to pay for abortions. maybe not directly.
Now why do I say this doesn't surprize me?
From the PP side, this should be obvious. As I said, PP is getting cheap help to do the abortions, thus increasing their profit they make on each 1. This also gets UI on PP's side as they continue to push the safety of RU486 telemed abortion. Don't forget, Dr. Meadows is now out there pushing telemed abortions as a great thing. I
posted about her piece in the TH doing so in January.
So she clearly wants the people at UI on her side. Not that they aren't already. I am sure the UI scientists are just as willing to lie about the safety of telemed abortions like they did a few years ago to help give Rep Pat Murphy cover when the Iowa Legislature legalized cloning.
In 2007 the Iowa legislature passed a bill, SF-162, & then Governor Culver signed that legalized using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) to create clones to harvest for stem cells. They tried to push it as lifted a ban on stem cell research, a ban that never existed, as well as claiming that SCNT wasn't cloning.
The letter I got from Gov Culver/Lt. Gov. Judge said "(H)uman cloning will remain banned, period. Stem cell research is not about creating lives".
The letter I got from then Speaker of the House (& alledged Catholic) Pat Murphy (D) said the following: "Mr. Troupe: I respect your opinion on this, and I'm sorry that we cannot agree. I realize I'm no expert, but I'm told by scientists at the University of Iowa that somatic cell nuclear transfer, which is what this legislation will permit, authorizes the creation of embryonic stem cell lines, which are not even close to actual embryos.
They say that, without this legislation, they cannot conduct the necessary research.
They tell me that there is no sperm involved in somatic cell nuclear transfer, so there can be no embryo. These scientists say that these new stem cell lines are much better (than adult cell lines) for determining potential cures for diseases such as Parkinson's, juvenile diabetes, cancer, spinal cord injuries, Alzheimer's, and other diseases.
They say that we are perhaps five to ten years from major breakthroughs.
If there is credible hope that we can find cures for any of these diseases, then I believe we can greatly reduce human suffering that has touched my family and which touches many families. Also, no one is suggesting lifting the ban on human reproductive cloning.
Sincerely,
Pat "
I won't go into all the lies contained in it. I took their claims apart in 2 posts (
here &
here). & later, at a Cracker Barrel I nearly got arrested for standing up to Murphy & calling him a liar to his face. I will just point out a couple lies they gave him for cover that he & they knew were lies because they knew SCNT was what was used to clone Dolly the Sheep.
" I'm told by scientists at the University of Iowa that somatic cell nuclear transfer, which is what this legislation will permit, authorizes the creation of embryonic stem cell lines, which are not even close to actual embryos." As I pointed out, yes it is. & they knew it.
As I said, the whole group of claims UI scientists gave Murphy were clearly lies. he knew it. & if they lied then to cover up the legalization of cloning, I am willing to bet UI scientists will aid & abet PP in promoting telemed abortions as well.
Bluntly, this whole deal reeks of corruption to me. Again SOP with PP as I have
pointed out. But with AG Miller also in
cahoots with PP, I am not holding my breath that he will do any more about this than he did about telemed abortions last year.

"I realize I'm no expert." Murphy's words remind of the Saddleback debate where Obama evaded the question of personhood by saying it was "above my pay-grade." These are terrible excuses. When it is a matter of life or death, it is the duty of our elected officials to become experts on the subject.

Patrick, excuse works & as I firmly believe lie is another word to use to describe what he said.
A little background so you understand why I say he lied & knows it.
1st of all, his wife is a nurse. & a SEIU member of course. So you know that she has got to know the truth about SCNT being cloning.
2ndly, you can't tell me that he wasn't aware of what SCNT really was after all the news about Dolly.
& as I pointed out in the posts, the UI scientists knew the truth as well. This was clearly an agreement between them to provide cover.
I am firmly convinced he knew the truth & that he was lying through his teeth. Like I said, what he was trying to do was maintain a cover to look like he wasn't going against Catholic Church teaching to provide cover for his "Catholyc" supporters here in DBQ.
At the time this went through he was Speaker of the House. The House held hearings on the Bill. 1 of those speaking against it at the hearings was Archbishop Hanus of DBQ on behalf of the Iowa Catholic Conference. At the time of Hanus' testimony, he called a caucus of the House Dems so none of them would be there to hear what the Archbishop had to say.
Last fall he barely won relection. & I do mean barely. He has never had anywhere near so small a margin. A lot of it had to do with his unwillingness to bring up the Marriage amendment despite an earlier promise to do so.
Murphy is another 1 of those Dems 1st, Catholic last. & even after the near defeat he still doesn't get it. I wrote him in support of the marriage amendment & got a real snarky reply back. His arrogance is incredible. He thinks that he can continue to serll his soul for party & get away with it. Sadly, his pastor (we belong to the same parish) is on the same page & won't challenge him. Nor has Archbishop Hanus.
PS, 1 of the reasons he is losing is that a lot of Catholics who were lifetime Dems have started abandoning ship because they have realized the Dems will NOT welcome pro-lifers arround here. I was 1 of the 1st back in the late 80s to make the move. But several prominant pro-life Dems have recently done so as well, plus plenty of others in between.
