Heritical Habitless Hussies Honoring Gaia by Perverting Lent

A few days ago I read about the idea of abstaining from using plastic bags. On Tuesday I was doing some research to see what was in the various parish bulletins about Lent. A couple of them did have the fast & abstainance regs. But the big thing was giving up plastic bags. But it got worse when I took a look at the TH on Ash Wednesday. On page 3 was an article entitled Sister: Fast from plastic bags. The article was an interview with Sr. Michelle Balek, a DBQ Franciscan.
Before I go on, a bit of background. She is from the same New Age Franciscan gang I talked about in a post last August. The convent that produced the president-elect for the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). The gang that has perverted, yes perverted, St. Francis of Assisi's spirituality into a hedonistic New Age nature religion that puts nature 1st & God last.
While most of what she said was the usual PC Gaia worshiping heresies & claptrap 2 things esp stuck out for me.
1st she claims she "got the idea to “fast from plastic bags” during Lent months ago during citywide policy discussions on whether to ban the ubiquitous sacks from Dubuque." Given how long this idea has been arround & her background, I think the only idea she came up with was to foist it on us. No, I don't think it is quite as original as the article would portray it.
But, what really turned my stomach is how she tried to say this fit in with Lent & fasting. “Fasting is abstaining from something in order to feast on something else. This Lent, let us fast from plastic bag use so we can feast on the beauty of God’s creation.”
Yes you read that right, she describes fasting as freeing us up to feast on something else, in this case nature worship.
Sorry, but the last I looked fasting was a discipline we do for spiritual reasons, not to feast. It is done in order to die to self & grow in spiritual self-discipline. Fasting enables us to die more to self & grow closer to God. We do it as penance for our sins against God, not nature.
Another sad fact is that the local Catholic HS "environmental" group is co-sponsoring an event with the Sierra Club. FYI the Sierra Club describes itself as "pro-choice". It also spouts the usual contraception reduces abortion BS as well as the "reproductive health" cover used by Planned Parenthood, Marie Stopes International & other abortion promoters. & as for Sierra's claims about overpopulation they use to justify it, check out Population Reasearch Institute's website for the truth.
Don't get me wrong, I support being a good steward. I use those reusable bags because you can get more in them making it easier to unload the car. & the 5 cent off per bag at my grocery store doesn't hurt as well. But she almost makes me want to fast from using those bags & use tons of plastic bags instead.
But, as I said, she is promoting a pagan New Age spirituality that has nothing to do with Lent, St. Francis or authentic Catholic teaching.
Michael Voris does an excellent job of tearing apart what is wrong with the "false" spirituality these nature worshippers are promoting:
