Doctors at
Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri have finished their evaluation of Baby Joseph & it looks like he will get the tracheotomy the Canadian hospital denied him by the end of the week.
Dr. Robert Wilmott, head of pediatrics at Cardinal Glennon told media late Monday that Joseph “likely will have a tracheotomy performed by the end of this week to facilitate his transition to a skilled nursing facility.” The hope is to find 1 near Windsor ON on the US side of the border.
I a statement, hospital spokesman Bob Davidson said “there is not yet a firm treatment plan” for Joseph.
If you remember, the London hospital had declared that the baby was in a persistent vegetative state. However, doctors at Cardinal Glennon have told Father Pavone that he is primarily breathing on his own and is responding to touch. This confirms some of my suspicions mentioned in previous posts that the London hospital was trying to cover up the truth to justify their not wanting to treat baby Joseph as they should.
In a YouTube video (
added to my post yesterday) Baby Joseph's father Moe Maraachli, thanked supporters Monday. “
Thanks to all of you who pushed [the London hospital] to accept the transfer [of] my son,” he said. “I want to say I am never giving up.” He wrote on the family page on Facebook "
guys guess what i pray tonight with my baby Joseph privet safe". The London hospital had banned any physical contact with Baby Joseph & required security there at all times to oversee any visits.
1 family that understands better than most what the Maraachli family is going through is the family of Terry Schindler Schiavo. Terri’s brother Bobby Schindler has been helping Joseph’s parents get him to the United States from Canada. He applauded the rescue a& is glad Joseph will be receiving proper care.
Bobby Schindler had the following to say about the events of the past few days: “This is a great victory for Baby Joseph, his family and for all the people and organizations that were committed to helping this precious child. I’m just delighted that a groundswell of support began once we met with the family in Canada, and thankfully, Priests for Life followed with their help. Not only is this significant for this child but for all the medically dependent whose lives are at risk of health care rationing.”
As I also mentioned in yesterday's post, the London hospital issued a statement calling the attempts to save baby Joseph "intimidation tactics". The statement also claimed that "LHSC physicians and administration continued to explore all available legal options to ensure that the best interests of Baby Joseph were met and Baby Joseph was provided with compassionate, quality care up until and during his transfer to London airport.” Given what the doctors at Cardinal Glennon said, I am convinced that my initial opinion that the London hospital's statement was simply self serving was right. Along with the rest of my opinion as well. So far the London hospital has not issued a statment about the latest news. I will be surprized if they do unless forced to.
Anyhow, the good news is Baby Joseph is alive & well rather than having been allowed to die in a cruel way. Keep praying for the doctors & family so that Baby Joseph will get the best treatment he can & deserves.
