Pro-Life Action League Under Attack

I recently received the following e-mail from Eric Scheidler the Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League:

Rarely do our pro-abortion enemies do anything that really surprises me much. But last week was an exception -- such a big bizarre attack that it made Fox News Chicago yesterday.

Here's what happened:

Last Wednesday -- Spy Wednesday of Holy Week -- we got a call from a pro-life group in Minnesota. They had received a mailing for a "Home Abortion Kit" and called the number on the ad -- which happened to be the phone number for the Pro-Life Action League!

Over the following days, we received many more such calls, some from folks who recognized the League number and realized it was nothing but a hoax.

The office also received a stack of "undeliverable" letters, since the return address on the mailing was our Chicago office address.

The "Home Abortion Kit" mailing was so bizarre and disgusting that Fox News Chicago took interest in the story and interviewed my mother, Ann Scheidler, for a report on yesterday's news.

You can check out Ann's great interview and even see the hoax mailing for yourself on the League website:

It's desperate stunts like this that confirm to me that the pro-life side is winning over the culture, Allen. Nobody is attracted to the pro-choice position by creepy hoaxes like this.

After you watch the video from Fox News Chicago, you might want to offer some comments or words of encouragement for Ann.

I'd also like to ask you to offer a prayer for the twisted person who perpetrated this hoax.

Yours for Life,

-- Eric

P.S. Sometimes people object when I talk about our "enemies" on the pro-abortion side. But Christ said to PRAY for our enemies; he didn't say not to have any enemies. They ARE our enemies, but acknowledging that reminds us that we must love and pray for them.
Here is the news video as well as links to the text of the report & a pdf of the flyer:

For text of report: 'Abortion Kit' Flyer Called Mail Fraud

Fraudulent "abortion kit" flyer (pdf)

Sad, sick, disgusting, isn't it? But you don't hear the pro-aborts denouncing this like people do the pictures of aborted babies (Those Horrible Pictures). The question is why would anyone do this???? Over at Pro-Life Action League they are asking this question as well. (Clues About The Hoaxer) Ann Scheidler of the League thinks it is simple: "It’s disgusting. Perhaps the Hoaxer targeted people he knew would be most disgusted and horrified by the ad. Maybe the point was just to make people queasy."

That could very well be. They mailed out the flyer out mostly to Pro-life groups. It strikes me as a sick way to mock us though.

As an article @ AsiaNews describes the flyer: "It advertises, in snark-laden fashion, a product designed to allow women to perform their own abortions, describing the kit as “the greatest innovation in the history of medical technology.” It claims to use a “secret combination of chemicals and special enzymes to harmless [sic] break down the fetus into bio-waste in a mere ten minutes.”
With still more unsettling glibness, the flyer suggests that at-home abortions could be performed “up to the eighth month of pregnancy” and that it had been lab-tested on “10,000 unwanted pregnancies.”"

Snark laden is a good way of putting it. As the League points out, whoever the person from the Chicago area is "it’s also someone very disrespectful of what his peers typically refer to as a “woman’s private choice.” To suggest that a woman would be so cavalier toward abortion that she ought to order in bulk [pdf] to save money shows very little respect for a decision that even the 100% pro-abortion president Obama calls “tragic.”"

The police & post office are treating this as mail-fraud. The League is asking anyone who may have gotten a flyer to send the original to them for them to turn over to the authorities. Hopefully something will provide aclue to help them arrest the perpetrator. Let's join in praying for th person(s) just as Eric recommends.
