Lately there have been several posts on various blogs about the possibility that a coadjutor Archbishop will be named for Los Angeles. Cardinal Mahony is fast approaching 75. The thought of him no longer being in charge inspired me to rewrite John Lennon's Imagine to describe what changes many of us hope will occur:
Imagine there's no Mahony
It's easy if you try
Finally preaching about hell below us
Above us Heaven, not just sky
Imagine all the people
At Mass celebrated the right way
Imagine there's no Religious Ed Conference
It isn't hard to do
No gay or clown masses
Orthodox Catholicism too
Imagine proper liturgies with
No liturgical dance to suffer through
Refrain:
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
Celebrating Mahony's damage being undone
Imagine a real Cathedral
I wonder if you can
No hidden tabernacle to look for
Alabaster windows banned
Imagine real stained glass windows
Showing all the saints
repeat refrain
Here's an instrumental version of the song so you can sing along:

LarryD - As you may note, he already has seen & commented on it.
the hard part was picking what to put in & leave out esp w/ the Cathederal. This thing could have turned into an epic mini-opera if I had wanted.
