Not that long ago the American Medical Association (AMA) lightened its stance on marijuana laws, which is the only explanation I can think of for their recent decisions to oppose state marriage protection laws and come out in favor of repealing the long standing restrictions of homosexuals in the military. The AMA has consistently been losing Members as they take on more and more of a liberal agenda, and this latest news should not help their rolls. In the early 1970s, the organization represented about 75 percent of the nation's doctors. Of the 1,060,333 physicians and medical students currently in the U.S, only about 17 percent of them are AMA members. Of the roughly 240,000 AMA members, nearly 30 percent are in the student category so in truth the AMA only represents about 160,000 out of over a million doctors in the United States . Even those doctors who are members don't always agree with the AMA. When the association recently endorsed the House health care bill that passed last weekend they had open rebellion among state delegations who demanded the backing be repealed. Perhaps the AMA should worry more about protecting doctors' interests and less about promoting an unsafe agenda.
Sono Italiano-americano. I am a member of St Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. I am an advisor to Alpha Phi Omega & College Republicans at Loras College. I am a member of the Dubuque Co. Republican Central Committee. I have been involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement since 1974. For me the overriding issue of the day is defending the preborn & upholding their right to life. If we don't value life before birth, we devalue it after birth. Life is a gift from God. This is why I am a supporter of the work that Dubuque County Right to Life does in my area. & that is why I am politically active. Our nation's laws need to be changed to protect all from conception to natural death.
