Bluntly, my faith is not dependant on whether or not the Shroud is real. The Catholic Church has not, & will not rule on this being authentic. That is not in the realm of its responsibilities. But it just amazes me how some people are so depreate to debunk it because, IMHO, they are hoping to do so in order to prove Jesus was a myth & to destroy the Catholic Church/Christianity.
Recently an Italiano scientist claimed he was able to reproduce Shroud of Turin. If he did or didn't is yet to be seen. & some of what he did actually undermines his claims. Why did he try & reproduce the scorching? That was the result of later fires. The same for aging it. Why? Those things have nothing to do with the authenticity. Well maybe the scorching can prove that the carbon dating tests were inaccurate. But that is all.
He still doesn't explain the fact that the Shroud is basicly a photo negative. & why they would do something like that or even use these methods back then. Or even if they did use these methods in the way he claims.
Like I said, it doesn't matter if it is or isn't Jesus' burial shroud. As the Catholic Church reminds us, it should be a powerful reminder of Christ's passion. & it does that.
Again, the only thing that I can honestly say about those so anxious to debunk it is why they want to. & given who funded this reseach, I think my suspicions I stated at the start are valid. Garlaschelli received funding for his work by an Italian association of atheists & agnostics. His claim that that fact had no effect on his results may be true. But I wonder what the limits were on his releasing or not releasing the results? Was he allowed to release them no matter what? Or did he have to present them to those funding it & then get their OK?
Jesus did live. He was the Son of God. He did die & rise again. No scientific experience will ever be able to prove that. Science is useful in its sphere. But Not everything can be scientificly measured. & every honest scientist will admit that. Only those opposed to God will claim otherwise.
