More Insight into What Planned Parenthood Means by Safe & Legal

From an article in the Phoenix Business Journal (Planned Parenthood sues over new abortion restrictions):
Planned Parenthood Arizona Inc. filed a lawsuit in Maricopa County Superior Court Monday claiming new abortion laws approved by Gov. Jan Brewer in July violate privacy and due process clauses of the state and U.S. constitution.
Planned Parenthood officials said the group is not challenging Arizona's late-term abortion law but filed its suit regarding laws affecting parental consent, the ban on nurses performing abortions and 24-hour waiting period.
The laws being challenged require:
-That only physicians can perform surgical abortions. The law prohibits nurses from performing the procedure.
-That women receive certain information, including information on fetal pain, from a doctor in person 24 hours before her abortion.
-That parental consent forms be notarized.
PP's reasoning for their claim that "the restrictions essentially will deny some Arizona women access to abortions.":
This law puts the health and well being of more than half of our state’s residents at risk by restricting women’s access to comprehensive care. We believe the regulations should not be put into place until the court rules on the legality of this onerous law.”
Following this logic, I guess PP thinks that Nurses should be allowed tom perform any type of serious major surgery like an abortion is. That people shouldn't be given the information about those surgeries like they currently are & that parental notification/permission should not be needed for anyone under aged for any reason like that child getting his/her ears pierces, aspirin from the school nurse etc., because doing so is onerous & restricts women's (& men's) access to health care.
PP knows these laws are no different than those in place for other major surgery to ensure that the patient's safety is protected. But, as has been proved time & time again, esp by Lila Rose & Live Action (H/T to them for the lead), PP doesn't care about the safety of the woman or the legality of their (or others like rapists) actions. They just care about killing an unborn child so they can make more money. & if the abortion is botched, in PP's mind, it's not their fault, no matter what.
The reality is, these laws call PP to a level of accountability they don't want. As Cathi Herrod, president of the Center for Arizona Policy, a Phoenix-based group that supports the new laws points out: “The Arizona abortion law challenged today protects women, children, parents and the civil rights of health care workers. The law simply clarifies and updates current Arizona abortion law to remedy real-world problems. I remain confident that the law will be upheld in state court as each measure meets constitutional standards.”
It will be interesting to see how Attorney General Terry Goddard, who isa supporter of abortion rights & is responsible for defending the restrictions in court handles this case.
