The Culture of Life makes gains South of the Border

2 stories from LifeSiteNews are good news for the defense of the unborn. & a huge setback for the 'culture of death".
On a vote of 31-6 the Congress of the Mexican state of Oaxaca has voted to adopt a pro-life amendment to the state's constitution. This is the 16th Mexican state to do so in the past year. According to the Mexican newspaper Milennio it says "Every human being from the moment of fertilization enters under the protection of the law and is considered the same as one who has been born for all legal effects until his natural death."
It goes on to say: "In protecting the right to life of every human being in express form from fertilization and until natural death, we are seeking to strengthen the family, which is undoubtedly based on the nuclear family consisting of parents and children, this institution being one of the bases upon which respect for the right to life of everyone must begin, achieving the promotion of a culture of respect."
Ironicly, Mexico's famous president Benito Juarez, an ultraliberal who confiscated the properties of the Catholic Church & attacked its legal prerogatives in the mid-nineteenth century, was from Oaxaca.
Then there is this news from the Dominican Republic: Dominican Republic Gives Final Approval to Pro-Life Constitutional Amendment
In this case it was a constitutional assembly created to revise the nation's charter document, with an overwhelming 128-34 vote that added the Pro-Life amendment. It says: "The right to life is inviolable from conception until death. In no case can the death penalty be established, pronounced, nor applied."
This amendment was passed despite heavy campaigning by international pro-abortion groups and rumored pressure from the United States. Besides the White House pressure the groups pushing for abortion included Amnesty International & UNICEF.
(From the LifeSiteNews article) Frs. Manuel Ruiz and Luis Rosario, who have spearheaded efforts by the Catholic Church to protect the value of human life on the island, said that "the country should be celebrating because what they [pro-abortion groups] were trying to implant was a culture of abortion" and rejoiced that the country chose the right to life instead of "the international disorder," according to the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario.
"God did the miracle," they said. "With this recognition of life, the birth certificate has been given to the right of the mother to all rights, which is the right to life from the moment of conception."
Praise God for these 2 stories of the victory of life over death. With the battle here in the USA going hot & heavy, esp w/ what ObamaCare will or won't include, these stories should encourage us to continue the battle for life despite what seems to be overwhelming odds. If we remain faithful then I think we will see God do a miracle here, just as He did in the Dominican Republic.
