Last Week Obama, had a phone meeting with liberal leaning groups that label themselves as faith-based. It included some so-called Catholic groups. That was the meeting where he accused people opposed to ObamaCare as "bearing false witness" about it. As a part of the meeting an initiative entitled
40 Days for Health Reform was launched. As David Bereit, National Director of
40 Days for Life rightly points out, it is an unflattering imitation of what they do. It is an attempt to copy a campaign that has been successful in saving hundreds of lives as well as closing down abortion clinics.
Here is the pledge on the ObamaCare support website: "As a person of faith, I support health care reform, and I'm tired of shouting, disruptions and distortions preventing an honest debate.
Over the next 40 days, I commit to doing my part as a person of faith to promote health care reform. I commit to taking actions like writing my representatives, attending events, and telling my friends about our efforts to make the faith community a positive force for health care reform."
1st of all, notice it fails to mention that it is the ObamaCare supporters that have been causing almost all the problems. The way it is worded makes it sound like the opponants are doing all the disrupting when they aren't. Gee, isn't that bearing false witness?
Once it gets past the lies, the pledge is a typical leftist social justice manifesto that totally all but omits God & prayer & makes it all human effort. They have several sites accross the country where there are supposed to be prayer rallies. I am fairly sure there will be little prayer & plenty of rally that, IMHO, will be an affront to God. In fact many of the events have nothing to do with prayer & have everything to do with trying to make it appear that God is on the side of ObamaCare.
Contrast this with 40 Days for Life where the entire 40 days consists of time spent in front of the abortion centers praying, witnessing to people about the truth about abortion & saving the lives of several hundred unborn children.
& nowhere on the website does it mention abortion other than a passing mention of the Hyde Amendment that itself contains the following lie: "there is general consensus on both sides of the abortion debate that health care reform should maintain that status quo on abortion." Excuse me, PP et al are demanding it include reproductive health care which they know includes abortion. Also, the signs for these rallies are available through Catholics United which is a pro-abortion group masking itself as Catholic.
Anyhow, here is a news release sent out by David Beriot about it:
WASHINGTON, DC – “With abortion advocates trying to exploit the current health care reform debate to mandate taxpayer funding of abortion,” said David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life, “we are incredibly encouraged to see record numbers of people in cities across America willing to take a stand by participating in 40 Days for Life to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and seek God’s protection for innocent children in the womb — and mothers — at risk of abortion.”
40 Days for Life is now gearing up for its largest campaign to date with 209 cities in 45 American states, five Canadian provinces and Denmark poised to launch simultaneous 40 Days for Life campaigns from September 23 – November 1.

40 Days for Life is a groundbreaking pro-life initiative that burst onto the national scene just two years ago, mobilizing more than 215,000 people in 240 cities across all 50 states — and beyond — during four coordinated campaigns, saving 1,561 lives from abortion. The community-based 40 Days for Life campaign involves people of faith in 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, round-the-clock peaceful vigils outside abortion facilities, and grassroots educational outreach.
Bereit served as an organizer for the Stop the Abortion Mandate coalition of more than 70 organizations which held a highly successful nationwide webcast in July, drawing an audience of more than 36,000 Americans to oppose the abortion mandates in current health care reform proposals. Over 100,000 letters, e-mails, and calls to Congress were generated in response to coalition efforts.
On the heels of these successful pro-life efforts, a much smaller coalition recently announced its own campaign called “40 Days for Health Reform” to push abortion-laden health care reform. The group has organized a series of events, including a conference call today featuring President Obama.
“Some say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but using the biblical 40-days concept in an attempt to salvage floundering health care reform proposals that would mandate taxpayer funding of abortion and force Americans into health plans with mandatory abortion coverage – we are anything but flattered,” said Bereit. “I am confident that the prayers of millions of people, imploring God to inspire people to turn away from abortion, will be a much more powerful force in shaping the future.” As I said at the start, the ObamaCare supporters are attempting to copy what 40 Days for Life has done while failing to see why 40 Days has been so successful. $0 Days is on God's side & seeking God's will. The ObamaCare supporters are trying to make it look like God is on their side. David Beriet is right when he says our prayers to change hearts so people will turn away from abortion will be more effective, moore powerful than their prayers to get God to OK a plan that will include abortion & euthenasia & build a "culture of death" instead of the "Culture of Life" God wants.

As an aside for how anything but Catholic & truthful Catholics United has this on their website about the attempts to change how unions may be formed: "A newly introduced bill called the Employee Free Choice Act will do away with the antiquated and undemocratic process by which Americans must presently form unions, and replace it with one that guarantees organizing workers a free and fair choice." Let's see, this act would do away with the private ballot. Isn't the private ballot 1 of the foundation stones of a democracy? Again, who is really bearing false witness?
