A Theoretically Good Idea Put to an Evil Use

What you see at the left is the box for the Intelligender test kit. It is a kit that sells for about $80 & is theoretically 90% (reality 82%) accurate in determing the gender of a child. Besides the fact that it just strikes me wrong that we have become so selfish that we can't wait to find out if it is a boy or a girl, the potential for abuse is leading many people, not just Pro-life leaders, to express concerns.
It has been sold in the United States since 2006. It is now sold in Australia & may soon be sold in New Zealand. The test takes 10 minutes. A pregnant woman's urine is mixed with the chemicals in the kit. It supposedly turns green or black to indicate a boy and orange or yellow to indicate a girl. It does so by supposedly identifies a "confidential element" found in the hormones of a pregnant woman when she is carrying a girl.
The concern? That what "we would have is that people would then terminate pregnancies on the grounds of sex selection," according to Dr. Ted Weaver, head of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Bernard Moran, the head of the pro-life group Voice for Life, said he worries about sex-selection abortions, which are more common in Asian nations like China and India, becoming prevalent in New Zealand. He points out: "Certain ethnic minorities here might be more prone to use it."
When I read this, I thought of the fact that we already know that no test is 100% accurate. Even those done by doctors. There have been many stories of pre-natal testing that has found something wrong with the unborn child, only to be proven that the test was in error when the child was born. & this test has been shown to be wrong about 1 in 5 times.
But, even if it were 100% accurate, the problem is that it will probably get a huge portion of its sales from people who want a boy or a girl & will kill the child via abortion if it isn't the gender wanted. That very concept is horrific to me. I have no idea if its use would result in more abortions was a part of the plan in developing the product. But the fact is, it does lend itself to that.
& think about what it says to the child should he/she find out that the only reason he/she is alive is because he passed this test, literally! Or even worse, to find out that the only reason he/she is there is because the child was the 1 in 5 wrong results!
I can understand some people wanting to know in advance so they can decorate the room properly &/or get the right clothes, gifts etc. That motive is still a bit selfish. But it is nowhere near the evil motive of those who want to tell God what type of child they will or won't accept.
