Who & what am I refering to? The who is Doug Kmiec. The what is
Human Life International's Millstone Award. I am sure that there is no surprize at that fact, except maybe on Kmiec's part.
As a reminder, HLI takes the name & design of the award from Matthew 18:6 where Jesus says: "But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be better drowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck."
It almost seems rendundant to me to share what HLI had to say about Kmiec's deserving it as the facts have been reported again & again by Pro-life bloggers & Pro-Life leaders. But, for the 1 or 2 who may have missed it, as well as a reminder for the rest of us, here is what HLI had to say:
Doug Kmiec, a well-known and widely published law professor and former dean, proudly boasts to the world that he is a faithful Catholic. His sordid claim to fame is that he believes that Catholics should vocally support Barak Obama, the most pro-abortion president in the history of our nation.
He was easily seduced by Obama's statement that abortion is "always a tragic situation," and that the demonstrably disastrous "abortion reduction" strategy of more and more sex education and contraception will work better than attempting to limit it via legislation.
Surely Kmiec knew that Obama had promised to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, which would force taxpayers to fund all abortions and increase the numbers of abortions in the United States by at least 50%. He also knew that Obama had pledged to appoint only pro-abortion Supreme Court and federal judges. Kmiec, of course, never explained to us how these acts would reduce abortion. (emphasis HLI)
His support of rabid pro-abortionists does not end with Obama, however. Self-proclaimed "Catholic" Kathleen Sibelius had a perfect 100% pro-abortion voting record as Governor of Kansas, and even vetoed the most trivial restrictions on third trimester abortions, perhaps because her good friend, late-term abortionist George Tiller, poured tens of thousands of dollars into her election campaigns. When Obama appointed Sibelius Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kmiec signed a letter in her support, stating that "Kathleen Sibelius has made it clear that she agrees with church teaching that abortion is wrong and has acted according to that belief." This is despite her own bishop telling her that she was not "living and acting' as a Catholic and that she should not approach the Communion rail.
When his priest denied him Communion for supporting Obama, Kmiec did not take this rebuke humbly and amend his ways as a true Catholic should. Instead, he endlessly publicized the incident in interviews and in blogs, to the delight of the main stream media, which Kmiec knew would use the incident to pillory the Church he professes to love so much.
Kmiec believes also that the pro-life movement is wasting its efforts in the legislative arena, and instead should concentrate on making societal conditions so ideal that no woman will want or need to have an abortion. Why don't we try this approach with, say, rape? Let's eliminate all laws against rape and instead embark on an ambitious program to make society so friendly to would-be rapists that they would never dream of committing such an act!
Kmiec ignores, of course, all of the tens of thousands of pro-lifers working in the thousands of crisis pregnancy centers all over the nation. Perhaps this distinguished professor does not understand this, since he has not bothered to stoop to the level of the great unwashed pro-life masses laboring in the trenches.
In the final analysis, the greatest affliction suffered by turncoats is loneliness. Not even others of his kind will associate with him, because they know he could deceive them at any moment.
Human Life International would like to ameliorate this loneliness in some small way by giving him this month's Millstone Award to keep him company.
Sadly, Kmiec will probably toss the award out as it would prick his conscious way too much if he kept it, let alone display it. This is clearly not a recognition he will welcome, any more than he has welcomed any of the criticism he has received since he began his betrayal of his faith by supporting Obama.
I have to wonder how he could endorse Sibelius with a straight face. Either he has sold out so much that he can lie unashamedly, or he is so delussional that he really believes what he wrote. (I suspect the former.)
It is interesting that, in light of how many other pro-abortion Catholics in Name Only have gotten positions in the Obama administration, he HAS been marginalized. Is it because they see him as a "turncoat"? Could be!
