Just when you think the "culture of death" can't go any lower, something like this happens. Last Tuesday the Philadelphia Women's Center gave away free abortions as a means of "honoring" slain late-term abortionist George Tiller. That's right, free abortions. The Center said the free abortions were meant to show appreciation for Tiller, who was allegedly killed by extremist gunman Scott Roeder.
Once again, my stomach is turning to see what I said about making Tiller a martyr come true. They are using his death as a promotional stunt. SICK, SICK, SICK!!!!!!!!!!!
Another prediction I made was also fullfilled by recent comments made by Elizabeth Barnes, the director of the abortion center. She tried to make it appear that Tiller's murder was supported by the pro-life movement in reaction to political losses in the presidential election.
"When the pendulum swung in the direction of protecting women's rights, we expected something. The way the antis are reacting has changed, they're taking more liberties, pressing the boundaries of legal, civil protest," she said.
As I have said before, the only glee I have seen at Tiller's death has been from the pro-abortion people. Pro-lifers are denouncing the murder as against all we stand for.
Charmaine Yoest, the head of Americans United for Life, condemning the free abortion idea. “It’s really sad that they would give away for free without recognizing that in an emotional sense the abortion is very costly.”
Operation Rescue president Troy Newman was just as critical. "There seems to be no comprehension of the value of human life with these people. Killing babies for free to honor someone who was murdered can only be described as sick."
He went on to say: "There is no such thing as a 'free abortion. It costs the life of an innocent baby and puts the women at risk for increased problems in their lives. The loss of each innocent life diminishes us all."
I have to admit that besides being disgusted, I was a wee bit surprized to see the Clinic offer free abortions. After all, that is their bread & butter. But, after confirming some suspicions in my mind by checking their website, I am firmly convinced that they will be classifying these "freebies" as promotional advertising & thus write them off as a deduction for their income taxes.
1 other thing that puzzled me is why the following places would allow their names to be linked to the clinic. They are on a list of places that provide walk in pregnancy testing. Covenant House, St Chris’s Clinic & Drexel Women’s Care Center. After checking out the last 2, I found out that they are not Catholic. But Covenant House has Catholic roots. My only hope is that they see it as a way to steeer women away from abortion. But, I highly doubt it since no Pro-life pregnancy centers in Philadelphia are on the clinic's list.

The more I think about this, the more this bothers me. I worked in retail for 10 years & at a resturaunt before that. & I have taken a marketing class as well. So I know about "promos", "freebies", "loss leaders" etc. & to see what are, when properly used, good business practices to build up a customer base as well as to show appreciation to that base perverted to such a degree, it just turns my stomach.
When we have a culture that sees children as a burden & promotes evil as good we are not that far from collapse. This abortion "freebie" day, the condom ad I posted the other day (
What's Wrong With This Commercial? ) are all signs of how pagan our society has become. It shows how sold out to the "culture of death" it is. This things are a clarion call to us to redouble our efforts, beginning with prayer & repentance for our culture. & it is all the more why we must not let our voices be silenced, any more that the early Church let the Sanhedren or Roman Authorities silence them.
