Informed Choice of Iowa (Iowa City, IA)

(This is the 3rd in my series about Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers. I am hiliting them because it is important that we give these organizations all the support we can, prayer, financial as well as by volunteering. Unlike PP, most Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers usually don't get any government funding.)

Today we are going to look at Informed Choice of Iowa (Iowa City, IA) (IC3). Unlike the other organizations I've looked at, IC3 is limited to 1 location & isn't actually open yet.
A little background to explain why? IC3 was formed in June 29, 2007 in response to the fact that Iowa City, Iowa had 3 abortion clinics, but "no functioning organization to provide an alternative to the pro-abortion counseling that those who are experiencing a crisis pregnancy are given." Yes, it is hard to believe, but it's true. Iowa City for those of you who are unaware is the home of the University of Iowa. It was also the original site of the state capital. The metropolotan area has a population of about 147,000. In 2005, there were approximately 6,175 abortions performed in Iowa, in 9 clinics throughout the state. About 3000 abortions were done in Iowa City alone. IC3 began in response to this need.
In 2008 a site was found at 821 S Gilbert St., a lease was signed (with an option to buy) & work began on remodeling the building to make it into a clinic. Staff was also hired. An open house was held for donors on 30 March 2009. The clinic will operate under the name of Choices Medical Clinic.
1 major tool that they will use is a 4D color ultrasound machine. They are getting the machine from Seimens Medical Solutions. The machine is worth $130,000, but is being sold to IC# for $41,000. On 26 January 2009, the Iowa State Council of the Knights of Columbus donated the money to purchase the machine. It was through the IA KCs that I 1st became aware of them as well.
Other projected servicies include:
Pregnancy Testing
STD Testing, Diagnosis & Treatment
Counseling
Information - Abortion: Procedures, Risks, & Side Effects
STD Risk Assessments
Referrals for OB Care & Social Services, Adoption Services
Early Prenatal Care
Abstinence Education Program for Middle & High School
Certified Adoption Liaisons and Referrals to Bethany Christian Services, Catholic Charities
Post Abortion Counseling Referral to Rachel’s Vineyard
Given that Iowa City is a college town, the need for a clinic like this is more than urgent. It is way past due. & that need is finally being met. Their mission "To eliminate the option for abortion through effectively serving the pregnant at-risk woman by turning her fear of the present into confidence in her future" is off to a good start. Like all the Pro-Life organizations they need a variety of volunteers.
Obviously they need financial help. Any donation is welcome, but for those who can, they have a Sponsor-A-Day program. You can go to the donation page to do so.
You can also contact them or donate via mail:
