On Friday 6 February 2009 the board of directors of the Madison Surgery Center unanimously approved a second-trimester abortion practice at their 1 South Park Street facility. The facility is a joint venture of University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, the UW Medical Foundation and Meriter Hospital. Their 3 boards had previously approved the plan.
The facility will provide abortions primarily to women 19 to 22 weeks pregnant. These babies will be “terminated” (read murdered) by dilation and extraction (D&E), the standard abortion method used after 13 weeks whereby the cervix is dilated and the unborn child is dismembered with plier-like forceps. Force is needed to pull the baby apart.
The service is being added to replace the practice of Dr. Dennis Christensen, who had performed abortions up to 22 weeks at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Madison until he retired in December. Planned Parenthood will still do abortions up to 19 weeks.
1 fact that the news media failed to report is how this whole plan came to light. Those behind it had hoped to keep it secret until it had been officially approved. But the secret plan was uncovered by the Alliance Defense Fund in early January. The only logical reason for the secracy is that they knew the reaction they would get from Pro-life organizations & were hoping to avoid it. Fortunately their plans came to light. & they couldn't avoid all the negative publicity their actions engendered.
Pro-life groups have stated concerns that the clinic could violate laws against the use of government money for abortions UW officials claim that no state funding will be used for the abortions. Given that the doctors' salaries include state money that isn't exactly true.
Peggy Hamill, Pro-Life Wisconsin’s state director had this to say about what is really going on: “Not only will the UW and Meriter be engaged in killing almost viable and viable pre-born babies, they will now be training medical students in this grisly practice and exporting them to cities and towns throughout the country. When medical schools teach students how to kill, it is a failure of academia. The body parts of babies killed at the Madison Surgery Center will likely be used for UW research projects. This practice was condemned after the Holocaust. Using the bodies of innocent human beings for experimentation is a failure of science."
Training medical students from a state college as well as usng the murdered children's remains for experiments does sound like a new Wisconsin government underwritten holocaust to me.
1 bit of good news, 3 of the 4 anesthesiologists at the surgery center have made it clear that they will no participate in the abortions. 1 of those anesthesiologists, Dr. Nancy Fredericks, said the service would tarnish the reputation of the surgery center.
Matt Bowman, an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, an Arizona-based Christian group, has made it clear they will be keeping a close on on the abortion activities at the clinic. He said the group would "pursue legal action" if state funding was used inappropriately or if workers were forced to participate in abortions against their will.
If you are a donor or alumnus of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, or have any connection to the university, please inform them that you will not support them financially.
If you live outside of Wisconsin, please inform these people this plan is causing disgust and drawing condemnation nationwide and urge them to reverse their decision.
