Will It Include the Corleones?

Those of you who saw the original Godfather movie will remember the scene where Michael Corleone goes out to Las Vegas. he tells Johnny Fontane: "The Corleone family is thinking of giving up all of its interest in the olive oil business, settling out here. . . . Moe Greene will sell us his share of the hotel and the casino so that it can be completely owned by the family." & talks about the move out there. The Mafia in Vegas also plays a big part in The Godfather, Part II & is a part of a key plot development in The Godfather, Part III. While the events in those movies weren't real, they were based on the fact that the Mafia did have a big part in the growth of Vegas in the 40s & 50s.

Now the mayor of Vegas, Oscar Goodman, is hoping to build a museum celebrating the Mafia’s influence over Sin City, using up to $55 million of federal stimulus funds.

If it is done right, I would have no problem with the museum per se. In fact, I think it is a good thing. It would have to be done in a way that doesn't glorify the Mafia (& orginized crime in general). Yes, the Mafia did help make Vegas what is today, but the how needs to be shown for the evil that it is. As sad a part of my Italiano heritage that it is, we need to face up to it & show why theis type of response to other evils is wrong.

But, with our tax dollars? I have some huge problems with that. The fact that the background of Goodman includes acting as a Mob Mouthpiece just adds to the concerns I have about it.

1st of all, I don't think that we should be spending out tax money in any way shape or form for a stimulus package. All this is doing is giving the government more control than even our most pro-national government Founding fathers ever envisioned.

2nd, despite the claims that no stimulus funds will be earmarked, there are ways arround that to let the money be used for things like this. & it will be.

Our tax dollars at work. Please, not with mine! I've a better idea, let's get back to the type of government our Founding Fathers envisioned.

I recently read a column on the taxpayer soaking that they never envisioned for us. The line that really struck me was this: "The bottom line is that taxation without representation is bad, but taxation with representation is worse." (Calling Off the Boston Tea Party Burt Prelutsky) Unfortunately, he is right. Part of the article makes the point that if they knew then what we knew now, King George wouldn't seem so bad. Sad, but true.

However, rather than call of the Boston Tea Party, I humbly suggest that it is time for a new
Tea Party" where we get back to what this country was ment to be rather than what it has become. It won't be easy. Just like it wasn't back then. But we did it once, why not again?

I know that some people say that the Godfather trilogy glorifies the Mafia. It doesn't. If you look at the 3 movies you see the cancer that the Mafia really is as well as the damage it does to the Corleone family. The end of Godfather 3 especially shows the price that evil extracts.
