Bravo to Sears, Roebuck & Co. for going above & beyond what the law requires it to do when an employee is called to active duty. The law requires a company to hold their job open when called up. The law also requires that the company provide deployed employees access to 18 months of continued medical coverage at the employees' expense.
Sears is going far beyond this. they are paying the difference between their military pay & what they would have made for up to 5 years. This means that if the employee wants, he can opt to continue in the company's life insurance, medical and dental programs for the same 5 years.
Sears has also made a $2 million donation to the National Military Family Association. The Association addresses challenges faced by military families. Some of the funding went to Operation Purple, a summer camp program held this summer for children of deployed service members.
This is only a part of what Sears is doing to support the military & their families. Growing up with a father in the Air Force, I know how difficult things can be for families. Esp when a parent is deployed overseas in a combat area. That is why it is good to see something positive being done for our troops instead of the all too often attacking them that we have seen in recent years.
