If the National Catholic Reporter Was Arround in the 4th Century AD

On Monday, I was reading a post at American Papist in the Non-Catholic Reporter's official unofficial endorsement of Obama. ('Bishops narrow anti-abortion effort hurts pro-life cause') As I was reading it, I began reminding myself that this was nothing new in the Church. At that point the Arian heresy & how St. Athanasius & others dealt with it came to mind. I began thinking about how NCR would have been extolling Arius & criticizing Athanasius much the same as they were criticizing the Bishops who spoke up in defense of life recently.
So, let's hop into the wayback machine & have Sherman set the dial to 400 AD. The place, Alexandria. (OK, go along with me, I know that printing presses & other things haven't been invented, but, did that ever stop Mr. Peabody?) As we look arround we see a news stand. There is the newest edition of the Byzantium Catholic Register (the NCR equivalent).
We read an editorial that starts out like this: "Another Imperial Senate election cycle is nearly ended, and once again the Eastern Catholic bishops in the United States have sadly distinguished themselves for the narrowness and, in too many cases, barely concealed partisanship, of their political views."
What are they talking about? We get a clue in the next paragraph: "Cycle after cycle they have promulgated the same message: "Recognizing Jesus as consubstantial (homoousios) with the Father trumps all other issues and the only credible approach to fighting this heresy is voting for candidates who express a wish to uphold the anathemiazation of Bishop Arius, the 325 Council of Nicaea decision."
"We thought with the death of Bishop Athanasius a few years ago, that the controversy would die down. Sadly it hasn't. In fact, in recent years, the attacks on the true 'Spirit of the Council of Nicea' have increased."
"But since Nicea was hijacked from the 1st, is this any surprize? Remember Pope Sylvester sent his thugs to ensure things went his way, & that the spirit couldn't have her way."
I wish I was exagerating this, I'm not. NCR has sold its soul to the devil. It is not Catholic despite claims to the contrary. They are the ones doing harm to the Catholic Church. Not the Pro-Life Bishops who are doing what they are called by God to do, boldly proclaiming the truth.
& that truth doesn't depent on a majority vote. At times St Athenasius was in the minority among his fellow Bishops in the Eastern Church. He was exiled for speaking out to defend the truth. (& this was after the Council at Nicea took place & declared his view as the correct 1, not Arius'.)
Apparently, those at NCR have failed to learn from history. Like so many others disidents & heretics over the centuries, someday the editors, publishers & staff pf NCR will have to give account for the number of souls they have led astray. May God have mercy on them!
