I am officially announcing my endorsement for Initiated Measure 11
on the South Dakota Ballot. While it doesn't totally ban abortions in South Dakota it is a move in the right direction. If it passes, it will almost certainly be challenged in court. & may even be a key in the overturning of Roe v Wade
. Depending on how the ruling overturning R v W
goes, it will, at the least allow states to ban abortion, at best, the ruling will finally recognize the already existing Constitutional protection of the unborn & declare abortion unconstitutional. (Although, I still think we need to have an amendment that makes clear what is already there to prevent the misreading done in the past from ever happenning again.)
Never doubt that the ultimate (& only true) goal is to eliminate all abortions in the USA. We need to be careful not to settle for any less, no matter what. But we also need to take every step we can in the meantime to put limits that began to reduce this holocaust. Again, any steps MUST lead to the complete banning of abortion as the ultimate goal.
In 2006, a referendum that would have completely banned abortions was defeated 44% for - 56% against. Surveys said that it would have passes with the few execptions in the current version. That is why they are trying again to at least get a law passed that will ban the great majority of abortions.
Planned Parenthood is doing all it can to defeat this bill. They are pouring in plenty of out of state money into the battle. They know that any limits on abortion will open the door for a complete ban of the proceedure if passed & upheld. They don't want to take that chance.
Vote Yes for Life doesn't have the deep pockets that PP & their buddies do. they need all the help they can.
Again, while the goal remains a complete ban, any step along the way that will put limits & cut down on the number of unborn murdered is a step in the right direction. Every abortion prevented, is 1 more life saved.
