Wednesday, Pat Robertson, head of CBN & 1988 Republican presidential candidate announced his endorsement of Rudy Giuliani for the Republican nominee for president in 2008.
It is now Sunday morning & I am still going "HUH??????????????" It doesn't make any sense to me that he could in any way shape or form endorse a pro-abortion candidate. & 1 who is also pro gay rights.
Then to go on & say: "I thought it was important for me to make it clear that Rudy Giuliani is more than acceptable to people of faith." (Pat Robertson Endorses Rudy) Pat speak for yourself.
& as I went on to read more from the article explaining Robertson's reasons, I could only come to 1 conclusion, Pat Robertson has either sompletely sold out to the world or finally & completely lost all contact with reality.
"He insisted that while some on the "fringe" of the social conservative movement may see Giuliani as an unacceptable nominee, the "core know better."" I am a part of that group that sees Rudy as unacceptable, many of my friends are also a part of the group. & none of us are from the "fringe". We are at the core of the movement. & being pro-life is at the heart of the same movement.
"Robertson said although he and Giuliani disagree on social issues, those disagreements "pale into insignificance" when measured against the import of the fight against global terrorism and radical Islam. "We need a man who sees clearly how to deal with that issue," said Robertson." Pat, may I remind you of the saying of Jesus: "What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world & lose his soul?" (Mark 8:36) Yes global terrorism is important, very important. But the unborn are even more important. & if we don't protect the least, then the rest doesn't matter. I think that global terrorism & radical Islam "pale into insignificance" when measured against 4000 children a day being murdered by abortion.
In fact, how can we even expect God to bless us & protect us from harm if we don't protect the unborn, the unwanted, etc.
Pat, might I suggest that you go back & reread the speech Mother Teresa gave at the 1994 National Prayer Breakfast (3 February 1994, Washington DC). Here are a few key quotes from that speech (Read the entire speech here on the Priests for Life website):
"But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself.
And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"
"I also know that there are great problems in the world - that many spouses do not love each other enough to practice natural family planning. We cannot solve all the problems in the world, but let us never bring in the worst problem of all, and that is to destroy love. And this is what happens when we tell people to practice contraception and abortion."
"From here, a sign of care for the weakest of the weak - the unborn child - must go out to the world. If you become a burning light of justice and peace in the world, then really you will be true to what the founders of this country stood for. God bless you!" (emphasis mine)
Pat Robertson & CBN were partially responsible for Mother Angelica getting started in broadcasting. & while I know she thanks God for that opportunity, I can safely bet that if she were still on the air she would be laying into Pat Robertson for his endorsement of Rudy just like she laid into Cardinal Mahony when he wrote that pastoral letter about the Eucharist that contained doctrinal error.
Pat Robertson has become no better that the "Cafeteria Catholics" on the left or the right who pick & chose what part of God's truth to accept. In fact, by endorsing a prime example of this phenomenon, he has gotten in bed with them & done more harm than good to the souls that he is responsible for as head of a major Christian ministry. He has become the type of shepherd that many an OT prophet decried as being more concerned with fattening himself rather than caring for the flock.

Also, on Wednesday Sam Brownback announced here in DBQ his endorsement of John McCain for the Republican nomination. While a bit surprizing, it does make some sense, even if I don't agree with it. For all the flaws McCain is much more acceptable to me & someone that I could vote for if he was the nominee. His pro-life record is a lot more solid that Rudy's has ever been.
