Catholic Medical Association Issues a Statement Criticizing ObamaCare
The Catholic Medical Association has come out with its latest statement on what is wrong with ObamaCare. While this latest focuses mostly on the concern of a Federal takeover of the Health Care system, the CMA has been vocal about it not funding abortion & protecting conscinece rights as well. As they make clear: "Above all, it is necessary at this time to ensure that any national health-care reform legislation provides respect for human life (e.g., by not funding or mandating abortion as a “health-care benefit”) and respect for the conscience rights of health-care professionals (e.g., providing nothing less than the current protections in federal and state law—and preferably more)." The CMA has also set up a section on its website about Health Care Reform with tools to help those who want to work to ensure any reform truly aligns with authentic Catholic social teaching.
Here is the intro to the latest statement:
CMA Issues Open Letter to Catholic Organizations On Monday, September 21, the Catholic Medical Association issued an open letter to Catholic organizations and individual Catholics to share its views on key prudential aspects of health care reform legislation. The letter called for a renewed emphasis on the principle of subsidiarity across the spectum of issues in health care financing and services. The letter critiques the federal government-centered approach evident in legislation passed out of congressional committees. Even apart from the issue of abortion and respect for conscience rights, such an approach is wrong in principle, demonstrably ineffective in practice, and dangerous given the Obama administration's evident refusal to respect human life. Sono Italiano-americano. I am a member of St Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. I am an advisor to Alpha Phi Omega & College Republicans at Loras College. I am a member of the Dubuque Co. Republican Central Committee. I have been involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement since 1974. For me the overriding issue of the day is defending the preborn & upholding their right to life. If we don't value life before birth, we devalue it after birth. Life is a gift from God. This is why I am a supporter of the work that Dubuque County Right to Life does in my area. & that is why I am politically active. Our nation's laws need to be changed to protect all from conception to natural death.
