Last year Eric Cantor (House Majority leader) launched a program called You Cut that allows the US Taxpayers to speak out about what they want the Congress to stop spending money on. 3 ideas are posted on his website & people are asked to select the one they would most like to see defunded.
This week 1 of those 3 choices is the funding for the UN Population Fund. For those of you who are unaware of what it does, the UNFPA is the UN population control agency that is complicit in China’s brutal one-child policy, which is carried out via coercive abortions a& involuntary sterilizations.
In the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan withheld all U.S. contributions to the UNFPA after determining that it participated in the support & co-management of China’s population control program. Under the Bush administration, the U.S. withheld funds for the UNFPA from America’s annual contributions to the United Nations due to UNFPA’s complicity in China’s one-child policy enforced through coercive abortion & involuntary sterilization. Of course, the Pro-abortion Obama administration & the 111th Congress resumed contributions to UNFPA. HR 1 sought to terminate UNFPA funding, which stood at $55 million in FY 2010. UNFPA funding was cut by $15 million, to $40 million in the final agreement over FY 2011 spending. The President’s 2012 Budget requests $47 million for the program.
Besides it support of China's anti-life policy the UNFPA issued a report in 2009 that has called for "universal access to reproductive health" which would both contribute to declines in fertility & "help reduce green-house gas emissions in the long run." It calls upon nations to "fully fund family planning services and contraceptive supplies."
In 2011 the UNFPA joined with the Center for Reproductive Rights, a prominent pro-abortion organization to publish a joint briefing paper that addresses contraceptive information & services specifically for women and adolescents. 1 of the things the report says is that access to medical abortions (RU-486) is a part of the human right to healthcare services. The report also calls for doing away with any parental consent laws that limit a child's access to birth control. It demanded that states provide unrestricted access, or subsidize contraceptives in order to ensure financial access. Additionally, it is littered with language that condemns ideological discrimination against family planning, including objections based on religious values. For example: “Because a conflict of conscience can be experienced only by an individual, a conscientious objection cannot be exercised on behalf of an institution."
& those are only a couple of examples. You can go to the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) website & do a search for UNFPA to get more info on how much the UNFPA is an agent for the "culture of death". (Consider donating while you are there to support the hard work they are doing keeping an eye on what is going on in the UN & getting the word out about the attacks on "the family and other institutions man requires for a just, free and happy life."
Of the 3 up for a vote this week, defunding the UNFPA would save the most money in the long run, $400, million. For me that is the frosting on the cake. The really important thing is that this will make it more difficult for the UNFPA to push its anti-life agenda. & the lives saved as a result are definitely the most important reason to make this the winner so it will be brought up in the house.
It will also keep Congress aware that we are not going away when it comes to the Life Issues, especially spending our money to promote/provide abortions or abortion providers.
