Definitive Proof Marty Haugan & Liturgical Music Don't Go Together

Here is "Gather Us In" in Latin which will show I am right:

(Translation by Peter Mottola)

OK, I think this was done as a joke, but it does show us how certain "songs" are definitely NOT hymns & have no place in the Liturgy, NO or TLM. & I use the word song intentionally. Because that is what it is, a song. The music is OK, barely. But as for the lyics, they leave more than a little to be desired (English or Latin). Part of the problem I have is that this focuses more in on us than it should (although there are songs much worse like "We Have Come to Tell Our Story"* or "Sing a New Church" or "Ashes") rather than in worshipping God. Another problem is the slighty faulty theology at some points that downplays or undermines the "Real Presence" in the Eucharist.
So don't forget, when it comes to deciding what to use for liturgical music:

* Or as I like to refer to it as, Lord, look at how great we are. Do you know how lucky You are that we are here? You should be glad we have deigned to come here & let You bask in our glory. Bow down & worship us. etc

Notice in these songs: I, us, we, me, our... conducive and promotes self-idolatry.

Unfortunately, our parish uses Haugen's stuff on a regular basis. Makes me cringe and recoil all of the time.

Forgetting the text for a moment, what Haugen (& lots of others) write is Broadway tunes. Then they add smarmy text.

That's not exactly new. Tin Pan Alley, Broadway's predecessor, influenced LOTS of "hymn music" back in the early 1900's, giving us such crap as "Mother Dear, O Pray for Me."
