Arrogance, Thy Name is Dr. Harrison

Over at Creative Minority Report Patrick Archibald has a post about Dr. William Harrison of Fayetville, Arkansas. Dr Harrison runs an abortion clinic, Fayetteville Women's Clinic, that is the site of a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil this Spring. W hen he found out his clinic was going to be the site of a protest he choose to respond with sarcasm & mockery. He wrote a letter welcoming them saying that all they would do is provide him with free advertising.

In an interview with a local TV station (KHBS-TV/KHOG-TV - 40/29) he had the following to say: “I think it's silly. Standing across the street and praying to end abortion, that doesn't work.”

Apparently he isn't aware of the effect 40 Days for Life has had on other clinics. Several of them have closed down permanently as a result of the prayer. many vigils have also shut down during the vigils because of the fact that the clinics see a huge reduction in business. & then there are the number of unborn children saved (45 so far this campaign). Prayer DOES work!!!!!

1 of the organizers, Tiffany Dickinson, isn't letting him get to her. In fact she is responding in the best way possible, by praying for him. “One of my biggest prayers is that he would have a conversion of the heart and he use his medical skills and knowledge to promote life, not death.”

As Patrick Archibald says, he takes being a jerk to a new level. & while I suspect Satan's laugh has a stronger tone of evil in it, I think Patrick is right when he says the doctor's laugh must be very similar.

In the end though, it isn't Dr. Harrison who will get the last laugh, it is God. I couldn't help but think of Psalm 2 which was 1 of the Psalms for Sunday's Office of Readings in the Roman Rite. It starts by talking about the arrogance of those mocking God's Lordship. God's response: "The Lord laughs at them, He who lives in the heavens derides them." Someday, either in this life, or when he faces God at his judgement after his death, Dr. H will have to admit that he is wrong & that what he did was evil & murder. Like Tiffany Dickinson, I pray he does in this life. because if he only does it after death, then it will be too late for him to avoid facing eternity in Hell. & just as important, many unborn babies will be saved as a result of his conversion. & then there is the fact of the powerful witness his conversion will be as well.
