Archbishop George Lucas - Another Bishop Leading the Pro-Life Fight by Doing
Abortion Protest First Under New Archbishop
Lucas said he hopes the mass and prayer service lets people in crisis pregnancies know they have somewhere to turn.
"We want people to know that every human life is valuable and there's a place for each of us here in the human family," Lucas said.
The people who came to the Saint Mary's Catholic Church said they had a good reason to be there.
"That's our biggest prayer, at least it is mine, that we have a conversion of heart," said attendee Sue Casart.
"We try and save babies that didn't get a chance to show people what they were actually going to be like," said attendee Brigid Moynihan.
The event begins with a special Mass and then participants walk down the street in prayer. Some held tight to their rosaries and others kept family members close by. The walk ended in front of Dr. Leroy Carhart's clinic where abortions are performed.
Lucas said the vigil is about more than a message.
"To open our hearts in faith and in love to the community around us to express our belief in the sanctity of human life and to invite others to pray with us," he said.
