Noise - Teresa Tomeo

Next week EWTN will air a series hosted by Teresa Tomeo based on her book Noise. The show will air Monday thru Friday, 24 to 28 August @ 3:00 AM ET / 12 AM PT & 6:30 PM ET / 3:30 PM PT.

Monday, she looks at the problems created by the negative media saturation of our culture; Tuesday, she considers the cultural problems created by the saturation of violent imagery in the media; Wednesday, she looks at what the Church teaches about the proper use of the media; Thursday, she looks at how the media can be used as a tool for evangelization; and Friday, she sums it all up by giving us ways we can combat negative media saturation and make a positive difference!
As I said, the series is based on her book of the same name. Having read the book, I can honestly say that I expect the series will be well worth watching. I would also recommend getting the book as there is a lot more in the book than she will be able to cover in the series. & for those areas she does cover in the series, the book will have more on them. It will also serve as a handy reference guide to help you in taking the actions she suggests.
For those who are not familiar with who she is, here is the bio on her website:
Teresa Tomeo is a veteran broadcast-journalist with more than 20 years of experience as a radio and TV news reporter and anchor woman mainly in the Detroit area. Teresa first served as an award winning radio reporter and radio news anchor receiving recognition for her work from the Associated Press, The Detroit Press Club, and the American Women in Radio and TV. After making the move to TV news in 1988, Teresa worked as a reporter/anchor for WKBD-TV 50, covering the streets of Detroit live five nights a week. She then reported for the ABC affiliate, WXYZTV Channel 7. Her assignments at Channel 7 took her across the country covering some of the most significant stories of the ‘90s, including the Oklahoma City Bombing and the 1995 visit to the United States by Pope John Paul II.
Despite her success and recognition, Teresa began to become disillusioned and disappointed by the trends in the media toward sensationalism, violence, and liberal bias. In 2000 Teresa decided to leave the secular media to help families and other concerned citizens engage the culture.
Teresa Tomeo is now an author, syndicated Catholic talk show host, professional speaker, and media consultant. Most recently, she was invited to Rome to be one of only 260 international delegates to participate in the 20th anniversary of Mulieris Dignitatum, a "Congress on Women".
As you can see, she knows from inside experience what she is talking about.
I had the pleasure of meeting her in 2007 when she was here in DBQ to speak at the Spirit & Truth Conference put on by Springtime of Hope. She gave a talk entitled Making a Difference in the Media: Catholics Engaging the Culture that was based on some of the info in her book. ( Yes, I do have an autographed copy of Noise.)

I have seen one of the programs in this series a while ago on EWTN. I should get my brother to watch it - for the purpose of protecting his kids (4 and 6 yrs). Likely, however, he wouldn't watch.
