If The Main Stream Media Had been In Philadelphia in 1776

Today, 2 July, marks the anniversary of the day the 2nd Continental Congress voted to declare independence from England. This is how ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN & MSNBC would have covered it:

Good evening & welcome to the 6 pm news. The top story tonite, radical hardliners convince the Continental Congress to declare war on Great Britain. We take you now to Philedelphia.

Thank you! Yes, today the anti-tax, anti-government hardliners got their way & convinced Congress to vote to declare war on Great Britain. Under the guise of declaring independence the final vote was 12-0 with New York abstaining. Credit for pulling this off is given to John Adams of Braintree. Along with Ben Franklin, he has led the charge that led to this unfortunate action.

Before we go in, we wish to applaud the efforts of John Dickinson to end this farce. History will record him as the lone voice of sanity in the midst of the mad rush to total destruction. We also wish to deplore the cowardice of the New York delegation for their unwillingness to just say no & remain silent instead.

Rumor has it that the hardliners are now working on a document to justify their obviously illegal actions. It can be safely assumed that that paper will include some of their ongoing complaints.

It is certain that it will mention their unwillingness to pay taxes that were validly approved by Parliament. they claim that these taxes were approved without their representation in Parliament, despite the fact that it clearly was acting it the Colonies best interest. these taxes were raised to pay for the cost of providing protection for the Colonies & other expenses in administering them.

There will also likely be an attack on the judiciary. 1 of their claims is that the judges refuse to follow "common law" & go along with whatever is the latest liberal living interpretation.

Another complaint that is expected to be brought up is their unhappiness with how the British government works with & controls commerce. They are demanding unlimitted capitalism with no interference.

Reliable sources report that this document will aim to make it look like Britain is the villian rather than these anti-British radicals, many of which are know terrorists. 2 examples are Sam Adams who masterminded the Boston Tea Party that vandalized 3 ships & destroyed all the tea that made up their cargo. & while congressional president John Hancock did not actually participate, it is well known that he gave his full support. Hancock has also been under investigation for smuggling & only got off due to a technicality.

Sources with the British army say that this rebellion should be quickly put down & that within 6 months you will see those who supported this treasoneous action face trial & swift execution after their being found guilty.

On the other hand Fox News would probably have both John Adams & John Dickinson on. Adams would defend the need for the actions to have been taken when they were. & Dickinson would explain what his real stand was. The MSM would have made it sound like he was opposed to the action at any time. The truth is Dickison wanted independence, he just wanted the Articles of Confederation passed as well as the securing of a powerful alliance with a European nation. The debate would have been on the timing. Adams saying the declaration was needed to get an ally in opposition to Dickinson's stand.
