An "Ultra"Sound Idea

A few days ago I got a mailing from Focus on the Family. (I have no idea how I got on their mailing list.) On the front was "BE A VOICE FOR LIFE" & a seal based on the precious feet pin. When I opened the envelope the letter started with "culture of death". As I read that I thought: "once again that the lead taken by the Catholic Church in the battle to defend life is being taken up by those who at 1 time rejected that lead." OK, my point isn't to be ironic, my point is what the content of the letter was. But I did have to point that little fact out.
The letter was about a Focus on the Family program: Option Ultrasound™. The purpose of the program is to provide ultrasound equipment and training to underfunded Pregnancy Medical Clinics (PMCs) nationwide. The letter said that over the next year they hope to:
- Provide 86 grants for ultrasound machines, training and medical conversion for qualified PMCs across the country.
- Train the staff of 90 PMCs to reach abortion-minded women before they make the tragic mistake of ending their preborn baby's life.
- Equip millions of Americans to be a voice for the preborn, the unwanted and the infirm in their communities, churches and campuses.
- Encourage families to adopt one of the 127,000 legal orphans in foster care, precious kids who just want a family to call their own.
These are all excellent goals for building a "culture of life". But to reach them, money is needed. Unfortunately, very few of us has enough money to support all the Pro-life efforts out there. & right now I am spread as thin as I can. But 1 thing I can do is put this out there & hope some people who do have the extra money will go to their website & give.
Ultrasound machines have come to the forefront as a major weapon in the battle to save the lives of the unborn. & with the advent of 4D color machines, it has become even more effective. I have been thrilled to see the ultrasound pictures of friends. Having gone through an ultrasound a few weeks ago to determine what a lump was or wasn't, (it was a cyst), I am even more enthusiastic about the potential they hold to save the lives of the unborn.
According to some statistics, about 90% of those women who see an ultrasound of the child chose life over abortion. This is 1 of the reasons why there has been a big push to require an ultrasound before a woman decides whether or not to have an abortion. PP & other abortion providers talk about women knowing all the facts. But they oppose any law that requires a woman to know the basics that are required about any other surgury. They also oppose ultrasounds. Why? Because they know that if women truly know all the facts, they will almost always chose life, not abortion.
Here is a chance to help get the truth out there. Ultrasounds, esp 4D, show that what is in the uterus is not just a lump of tissue, it is a unique human being with all the rights, esp life, it is entitled to.
This is not a Catholic or Protestant issue. It is not liberal or conservative. It is not a woman's right issue or a woman's health issue. This is an issue about a basic human right that, as the Declaration of Independence says, is an inalienable right endowed by their creator. It is about LIFE. & without that, then there can be no liberty or pursuit of happiness.
