or: You Are Free to Say What You Want in Canada, as Long as We Approve of the Message
In addition to all the news about Linda Gibbons persecution for protesting abortion some recent LifeSite News articles prove that PC speech is fast taking the place of free speech in Canada.
Maybe they better go back & read the
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Section 2 says: "
Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
a) freedom of conscience and religion;
b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
d) freedom of association."
& it is only getting worse. I have no problem with someone putting anti-God ads up. But if the same things were said about gays they would be banned as hate speech.
Toronto Transit Commission Approves Anti-God Ads
Which leads to the final headline that is more silencing people you disagree with because they support what the Catholic Church teaches:
So much for freedom of thought, belief etc.
& WE ARE HEADING THE SAME WAY IN THE USA.
To be fair, the news from up North isn't all bad.
The above headlines were only the latest in a large number that have begun to cause the Canadian governement embarrassment. They commissioned an report. It was released last November by University of Windsor law professor Richard Moon. It recommended that the Canadian government scrap Section 13 of the Human Rights Act.
Section 13 of the Act is the part that gives the CHRC and its tribunals the authority to regulate, receive, investigate or adjudicate complaints related so-called “hate messages.” Its critics are charging that the Commission has focused its energies almost entirely on prosecuting Christians and conservatives, and accusing it of using suspect investigation tactics.
Interestingly enough, both Liberal & Conservative MPs are concerned about the act & how it is being used.
The question is will they? or won't they restore free speech?

I really don't understand why we in Britain give platforms to people who offend, apologise but trade off their notoriety: http://blog.matthewcain.co.uk/the-limits-of-free-speech/
