A while ago I put up a post about Giuseppe Povia performing a controversial song, Luca era Gay (Luca was gay) at the 2009 Sanremo Festival. (BRAVO GIUSEPPE POVIA!!!!!!) The song tells the true story of Luca di Tolve, a young man who recently spoke of his conversion in the Italian newspaper Il Giornale. There was some question as to whether they would let Povia perform the song. Claiming that the lyrics violated the rights of homosexuals, European Parliament Deputy Vittorio Agnoleto was reported to have presented the case to the European Court of Human Rights and has asked the Parliament to review the song. Italian homosexualist groups, led by "Arcigay," whose leader has denounced Povia for promoting "homophobia", have also protested the song.
Let's see if I got this straight, you can't tell the truth about your lifestyle if it isn't PC? I thought that these homosexual groups wanted people to come out of the closet, now they are trying to force others to go into the closet if they tell the truth about what the "gay lifestyle" is really like.
Paolo Bonolis, the artistic director and presenter of this year's edition of the Sanremo Festival defended the song. He got it right when he asserted that it did not "take sides" but just "told a story." The trouble lies in the fact that, as I said, the story it tells is a true 1 that rips the cover off of the false front presented by homosexual rights groups about their life style. I applaud Signor Bonolis for his courage in not giving into the PC polizia.
The Festival began last Wednesday & Povia performed the song as a part of the opening performance. It was seen by an estimated 14 million television viewers. Povia performed it with a female backup singer, a guitar band, a symphony orchestra. The Italian lyrics were projected onto curtains in the background. The live audience strongly applauded the song at its conclusion. The song has now been viewed over 100,000 times on the station's website.
The 36-year-old Povia was the winner of the Sanremo Festival in 2006 with his song, "I'd like to have the bill". He has had several platinum and gold hits in Italy. In an interview, he told the Catholic publication Il Giornale that he himself "toyed" with homosexual behavior when he was younger, but later "came out of it".

I studied Freud and he didn’t think the same, then high school finished but I didn’t know what happiness was, a big man made my heart shake and that’s when I knew I was a homosexual.
I had no inhibitions with him, he courted me and I thought that was love, yes with him I could feel myself, but then it became like a competition on who made the best sex.
I felt guilty, sooner or later they’ll catch him, but if evidence disappears he’ll be acquitted.
I was looking for who my father was in men, and I used to go with men not to betray my mother.
