Why?
Read this from a so-called Franciscan sister:
"GOD IS PRO-CHOICE
"Even though Catholic bishops are already pressing President-elect Barack Obama on the issue of abortion, it is time they begin to realize that 54% of Catholics who voted for him do not agree with the bishops telling people how to vote.
"Obama may be pro-choice, but so is God. God gave everyone a free will and he does not pressure people into using that free will to do what is right. Obama promised to do what he can to prevent abortion. What more need he do when so many other pressures to make changes are upon him?
"Yes, abortion is the killing of an innocent life. So is war and violent killing on the street. I have often seen many starving babies in hospitals in Honduras and witnessed their pain. In these cases, abortion might have been the lesser of two evils, and even the most merciful alternative.
"I challenge our bishops to dwell more on unjust economic issues that both create and perpetuate the need for children to die of starvation, and for women to choose abortion. It would be better to aim at eliminating poverty rather than focus only on abortion. Poverty in our country and the world at large is a disgrace that cries to heaven for vengeance.
"Sr. Arlene Welding, SSSF; Campellsport, WI"
The 1 thing she got right is that God doesn't force us to do what is right, but He has made it clear what the consequences are if we don't. However, I would be willing to bet that if you asked her, she would blow off Hell as a myth & say that God is too loving to ever send anyone there.
To say that an abortion is the lesser of 2 evils & even merciful is straight out of Hell. That line is taken from the "culture of death" big playbook of lies.
As for Obama's promise, I guess she thinks signing F.O.C.A. that will end any restrictions that HAVE reduced abortions is doing what he can. Her question, "What more need he do. . . . ?", just turns my stomach. Can you say Pontius Pilate washing his hands?
Also a majority doesn't make something right. Remember what I recently said about the Arian heresy. & at 1 time even a majority of Catholics thought slavery was OK. While any Catholic voting for the most Pro-abortion candidate ever is wrong, 54% isn't an overwhelming majority either.
As for her telling the Bishops to dwell more on economic issues, all I can say is that her comments are smoke & mirrors. Why is it wrong to speak out against abortion but OK for them to do so about economic issues? Her hypocricy is showing, in bright neon colors. The Bishops haven't exactly been silent on economic issues either, including on how to vote? Again, OK for economics but wrong for abortion.
Might I remind her that the shedding of innocent blood is a sin that cries to Heaven for vengance. She did admit that abortion took innocent life. But she doesn't want people to speak out about that. Yet, nowhere does it say in the Bible that poverty per se cries out for vengance. Yes, it does say that how we treat them might cry out. More smoke & mirrors to twist the truth & make a lie seem like truth.
Sadly, she is a prime example of someone who has completely sold her soul out to the "culture of death". & has allowed herself to become a PAID spokesman as well.. Might I remind her that the same Bible that she misquoted says what those wages are, death. I am willing to bet that she would deny the existance of an actual Hell.
What I want to know is what is Archbishop Dolan going to do about this? & why hasn't he done something already?
The
LifeSite News article was taken from Judie Brown's blog on the American Life League website. (
GOD IS PRO-CHOICE ACCORDING TO NUN) Judie heard about it from a friend who was understandably "d
isturbed" to read the letter. She told Judie:"
I cannot fathom how a religious sister could not only advocate abortion, but also place her pathetic, misguided ideas into print! What a disgrace! And why would our archdiocesan newspaper even print such garbage?"
Judie does suggest some actions to take which I repeat here:
First: contact Sister Arlene Welding's religious congregation and demand an apology from them for her public dissent from the truth of Catholic magisterial teaching.

You can also e-mail, though I think letters are best.
The phone number is (414) 384-4105
Second, please contact the Executive Editor/General Manager of the archdiocesan newspaper and let him know how shocked you were to read this screed in his newspaper.

Finally, it would be a very good idea to send copies of your e-mails and/or your letters to the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, whom I honestly believe would be as shocked as you and I about what was published in his newspaper.
Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan

Having checked out Sr. Arlene Welding's order's website, I found exactly what I suspected, a group who has turned its back on everything that St. Francis & St. Clare ever stood for. & I can imagine that they will stand behind what she said 100%. But that doesn't mean you don't write to them. They need to be told the truth even if they don't want to hear it.
